It is the most famous fountain in Rome—and even in the world. This Baroque masterpiece is located on the Piazza di Trevi and was designed at the request of Pope Clement XII by Bernini. The Trevi Fountain owes much of its fame to the many films in which it has featured as a backdrop, such as La Dolce Vita, Angels and Demons, The Lizzie McGuire Movie, and Roman Holiday.
The Trevi Fountain stands nearly 30 metres tall and is built against the rear façade of the Palazzo Poli. At the centre of the triumphal arch rises the statue of Neptune, god of the sea, proudly standing on his shell-shaped chariot drawn by two winged horses and tritons. Neptune’s horses symbolise Abundance and Health.
