Natural sites in Dole neighborhood
Right in the middle of Jura region, the Dole neighborhood has various natural sites particularly attractive that Air Corsica offers you to discover at the end of a direct flight at the beginning of Bastia twice a week in the summer : impetuous waterfalls and a peaceful lake : do you fancy it ?
Not far from Dole, the « Valley of the seven waterfalls » is a must-visit place. Over there, the torrent « le hérisson » rises in the « Saut Girard », result of the the water of lake Bonlieu and lake of Ilay. If you feel like it, you may go through its 31 jump spots and waterfalls following a three hours hiking tour. As a conservation area for protection of its landscape since april 2002, the access to the « Hérisson waterfall » has been tightly regulated. It is one of the largest natural site in Franche-Conté region !
On site, car-parks are available (for free or for a fee) and you may find various restaurants and shops as well as an enquiry point and the « maison des cascades » (house of waterfalls). Several paths are offered to discover the site, and you can freely choose your route according to its difficulty level, provided that you have the proper equipment to do it. During your hiking, the murmuring water will delight your ears, and the 60 to 65 meters high impressive waterfalls of the « grand saut » or « saut de l’eventail » will make your stay more enjoyable.
At the heart of the region, the lake of Chalain is a multi-faceted place ! Chalain is the biggest natural lake in Jura region. Of a glacial origin, it is also one the main tourism destination in the region : here, no motorboat, peace prevails ! Situated only 30 kilometers from Lons-Le –Saunier, Chalain is part of the lake region, renowned for its exceptionnal beauty that makes of it a true paradise for all the family ! Surrounded by mountains, forests and rivers, and rich of a rare biodiversity, Chalain lake reflects the nature of Jura region : quiet and simple but offering various activities : bathe, pedal boat, canoe, kayak, sailing, biking, hiking, fishing, horse riding…
